About Us
Martial School Combative Concepts. A rough translation of Martial School is Fighting School Or warrior school. Combative Concepts rough translation is Fighting ideas, fighting methods.
Martial School Combative Concepts was the first Full Contact School is the Greenville area. Its founder Sensei C.A. Deurwarder is the founder of this hybrid system of mixed arts. Rooted in Okinawa Te bare Knuckle Karate, Thai boxing, American boxing, Tae Kwon Do, and a few other arts that contains joint manipulations such as Hap ki Do. This system was and is for combat. At the time of Martial Schools opening in Mauldin SC, no school in this area practiced leg kicks, knees, elbows etc. Kai kan Karate was unfamiliar. With the popularity of MMA training, we have come full circle. Now hitting with effectiveness is widely accepted and learning new styles is also widely accepted ( it wasn't always so). The old saying of "what you don't know won't hurt you" is TOTALLY false! The more you know the better off you will be and so Combative Concepts is a HYBRID system that mixes the most effective techniques for combat in its true sense. Training to defend yourself against an unskilled assailant who has no clue what you are about to do and training for a hardened opponent that is trained to fight and take your best shot and still keep coming, is a totally different ball of wax. We train for highly skilled opponents not would be muggers however, we are well equipped for low level and unskilled opponents such as muggers. Your effectiveness is rooted in your preparation. Controlling all of your emotions in a high stress and dangerous situation can only be achieved if you train on a level where all of the above mentioned elements are present. The difference is simple, training for FUN and training to FIGHT! Our training is geared for combat and yes it is fun, though not for fun.! A fight is a struggle, you can't possibly prepare for a struggle by playing dodge ball etc and practicing techniques that even the unlearned knows they are unrealistic and ultimately useless.
